Ray-sur-Saône castle

One of Ray-sur-Saône’s main assets is undoubtedly its majestic château. Built on the ruins of a medieval fortress destroyed in the wars of the 17th century, Ray-sur-Saône castle proudly dominates the Saône valley. Although only the surrounding wall and towers remain from the medieval castle, they have been carefully restored in parallel with the construction of the new castle.

The château is surrounded by 6 hectares of English-style parkland, a haven of peace and greenery. The château is open to the public and can only be visited in the company of a guide, allowing you to learn more about its fascinating history and well-kept secrets.

From the village, the Voie Bleue cycle route takes you to Rupt-sur-Saône. Here you can admire another castle, now privately owned, with its 16th-century dwelling, farm and, above all, its medieval tower, which greets you from afar.

At Ray-sur-Saône We love strolling through the streets

As well as its magnificent château, Ray-sur-Saône can be explored through its streets and old houses, each of which tells part of the local story. These include the 16th-century Maison des Moines, a perfect example of the region’s traditional architecture.

The charm des clochers comtois

Saint-Pancrace church, listed as a Historic Monument, is another gem not to be missed. Topped by its typical Comtois bell tower, it is a clever blend of architectural styles, the result of numerous reconstructions carried out at different times. The oldest parts of the church date back to the 13th century. Nearby, don’t miss the wash-house with its two limestone basins.

Ray-sur-Saône is also an ideal place for nature lovers. The banks of the Saône provide a peaceful setting for walks, picnics and fishing. River tourism enthusiasts will also appreciate the uninterrupted view of the château from the Saône, offering a unique perspective on the village and this architectural marvel.
