The Church of Saint-Martin

When you arrive in Faucogney, your eyes will be captivated by the church of Saint-Martin, proudly perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the village. This building, one of the oldest in Franche-Comté, boasts a strikingly beautiful Romanesque chevet, which is listed as a Historic Monument. The peaceful atmosphere of the surrounding cemetery is an invitation to contemplation and meditation, offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding area.

A city with character

Faucogney is also proud of its title of Cité de Caractère de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, a recognition that highlights its historical and cultural heritage. As you stroll through its narrow streets, you’ll feel the soul of this village, where every stone and building tells a story. A magnificently sculpted fountain and the church of Saint-Georges, home to a remarkable organ, catch the eye.

Although the castle is no longer visible, some vestiges of the past remain, such as the MXV tower, the Cross of the Dead and the terraced gardens, built from the stones of the old fortifications.

 A turbulent past

This ancient stronghold, which at the time represented an essential gateway to Lorraine, was the stronghold of the Sires de Faucogney, whose influence extended over a large part of the Haute-Saône region. Besieged and pillaged by the French in 1674, the town was the last strategic bastion to resist Louis XIV during the conquest of Franche-Comté.

Explore nature mountain biking
