Héricourt Castle

You can discover the remains of its 12th-century feudal castle, where a tower has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1913. This yellow stone tower, the last remaining evidence of a once imposing fortress, invites you to take a trip back in time to the days when Héricourt stood proudly surrounded by its fortifications and moat.

The Savourot fountain-washhouse, built in a semi-circle, is a reminder of the importance of water in the daily lives of the people of Héricourt in days gone by.

A museum with an astonishing history

The Musée Minal will astonish you with its neoclassical architecture, a harmonious blend of brick, stone and a slate roof. And for its history too: an art-loving couple bequeathed their collection of paintings, jewellery and furniture to the town of Héricourt. They also bequeathed the town a sum of money to build a building to house their collections, the plans for which were drawn up by the couple’s wife herself. The building was built specifically for this purpose and bears the couple’s family name. It was opened to the public in 1923.

Today, temporary exhibitions are held there on a regular basis.

When a fort dominates the city

For lovers of military history and architecture, the Mont-Vaudois fort is a must-see. Built between 1874 and 1877, and inspired by the architecture of Vauban and the plans of General Séré de Rivières, this fort offers a real immersion in the defensive history of the region. From April to October, guided tours allow you to explore its drawbridges, courtyards of honour, gunpowder shops and casemates, reliving the daily life of soldiers when the fort was occupied. The panorama from the fort offers a stunning view of the Aire Urbaine.

The Mont Vaudois Fort bread festival

In May

Bread Day, celebrated every year in May, is a festive opportunity to rediscover traditions. The making of bread in the Fort’s oven becomes a captivating spectacle for young and old, enriched by a host of activities.
