The Font district

Start your visit in the oldest part of the town, the Font district, where time seems to have stood still. Here, the sub-prefecture, housed in a former Benedictine abbey, invites you to take a trip down memory lane. Just across the road, the Etang de la Font and the landscaped grounds of the abbey provide a peaceful setting for a stroll.

For a fun way to discover the town’s heritage, the escape game “La menace cachée” (“The Hidden Menace”) offers a captivating adventure in which you have to solve riddles based on the town’s history and monuments.

A city art-oriented

Lure is also a town of culture and art. It is the birthplace of Georges Colomb, better known as Christophe, and author of comic strips such as “Les Facéties du Sapeur Camember”. The town celebrates this character every 29 February. This is where Lure gets its nickname of “Cité du Sapeur”.

In Lure Street art invades the walls

But art in Lure doesn’t stop there. Take a stroll through the streets and you’ll discover a veritable open-air museum thanks to the M.U.R à Lure collective, which regularly invites street art artists to transform the town’s walls into vibrant, colourful works of art.

The M.U.R is a creative space located behind the Espace Cotin in Lure where street artists regularly come to express themselves. In March 2024, the artist Stom500 created a magnificent fresco paying tribute to his grandfather through a number of symbols relating to his life. A few months later, Pink’Art RoZ created a work on the same wall. The artists work during the day so that the public can witness this performance. Make way for leisure activities!

For lovers of outdoor activities, head to the Saline leisure centre. It offers a varied programme of activities in high season, including pedal boats, paddle boats, canoes and rock-climbing, not forgetting the free-access activities for young and old alike: walks, picnic areas, beach volleyball and petanque courts.

Discover the surrounding countryside

To extend this sporting experience, take the Voie Verte de la Vallée de l’Ognon from Lure to Bonnal, via Villersexel.

At Magny-Vernois, you can walk alongside the river Reigne. A signposted path leads to the river’s resurgence, whose turquoise colour changes with the light and the seasons, offering a fascinating natural spectacle.

For a nature break, set off on a 10km hike along the Onde trail from the Ognon bridge. This route explores the theme of water through ponds, the river Ognon, fountains and wash-houses. From the Vouhenans hilltop, you can admire the breathtaking view of the Vosges mountains.
