Follow the heritage trail

Discover the town’s historic centre by following the heritage trail, a 2km stroll to learn more about the town’s history and architecture: museums, numerous listed houses, remarkable monuments… There are no fewer than 17 listed monuments in the town centre!

Discover architectural nuggets

You’ll discover the town’s must-sees, such as the Maison du Cardinal Jouffroy, the Maison François Ier, the Maison du Bailli built in the 15th century and the Tour des Echevins, which keeps watch over the town.

The latter houses one of the oldest museums in France, dedicated to archaeology and fine arts. The tower itself stands out for its Vosges sandstone façade and its flamboyant Gothic style. Inside, the museum bears precious witness to the city’s history and exhibits ancient treasures.

At the top, an exceptional panoramic view of the city’s rooftops and the surrounding countryside awaits you. There are more than 140 steps to climb to get there, but we guarantee it’s well worth the effort!

The legacy of Saint Colomban

The town was shaped by Saint Columban, an Irish monk who founded a monastery here in the 6th century. The &cclesia, an area dedicated to preserving and promoting the archaeological remains of the monastery, invites you to immerse yourself in this past. Don’t miss St Peter’s Basilica, the monastery’s former abbey church, and its pink sandstone cloister.
