Historic market halls

Some of the many buildings that line the streets of Vauvillers are listed as Historic Monuments. The old covered wooden market halls, dating from the 17th century, are particularly noteworthy. They bear witness to the commercial importance of Vauvillers at that time. They are among the last remaining in Franche-Comté and are unique in Haute-Saône. Restorations have been undertaken and the covered market has finally been restored to its former splendour, despite several fires and destructions.

A castle Now the town hall

Château de Vauvillers, built in 1723 by Gaspard de Clermont-Tonnerre, impresses with its internal staircase, adorned with an elegant wrought-iron banister, and its glazed tile roof. The château, which has housed the town hall since 1823, is a perfect example of the architectural elegance of the early 18th century and the historical importance of Vauvillers.

In Vauvillers Mixing styles

In addition to these emblematic buildings, Vauvillers is also home to the house of Cardinal Adam Sommier. With its characteristic turret and gargoyles watching over passers-by, this house is in the Renaissance style. Further on, you can see the church of Saint-Eloi.

The large fountain, covered wash-house and numerous crosses and calvaries scattered across Vauvillers further enrich the cultural landscape of the commune.
