The spa district Between well-being and history

The heart of Luxeuil-les-Bains beats to the rhythm of its thermal waters, renowned since Antiquity for their many curative virtues. The current thermal baths, built in the 18th century, blend a neoclassical style with art deco elements, as evidenced by the many mosaics that adorn the premises. For a cure or simply a moment of relaxation, enjoy the 34°C waters.

Rue Carnot, nicknamed Rue aux 52 Balcons, epitomises the elegance of the spa district. These finely crafted balconies are a reminder of the importance of the foundries in Luxeuil-les-Bains.

The historic centre: a journey through time

At the end of the rue Carnot, the Tour des Echevins stands proudly. Built in the 15th century and standing 33 metres high, it houses one of the oldest museums in France. Its roof terrace offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and its surroundings.

Don’t miss the Maison du Cardinal Jouffroy, a beautiful Renaissance residence with a 16th-century watchtower. Shaped like an octagonal lantern and adorned with sculpted medallions, it was almost certainly reserved for reading and prayer.

The Maison François Ier, with its three arcades, is another example of Luxeuil’s rich architectural heritage.

The abbey quarter In the footsteps of Saint Columban

The town’s history is closely linked to its abbey, founded in the 6th century by the Irish monk Saint Columban. Although the abbey is now a private site, its legacy lives on in the Basilica of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, whose 17th-century organ is a real treasure. Today, the statue of Saint Columban welcomes you at the entrance to the Basilica of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, one of the jewels of which is the double listed 17th century organ.

The 15th-century cloister and the Lace Conservatory, preserving a technique that originated in Luxeuil-les-Bains in the mid-19th century, complete this journey through time.

Diving into the origins De Luxeuil

At the end of the tour, Luxeuil-les-Bains reveals its oldest secrets through its archaeological sites. The &cclesia takes you on a journey through more than 2,000 years of history, revealing 150 sarcophagi. The Gallo-Roman potter’s kiln site bears witness to the flourishing craft industry of ancient Luxovium.
