Château-Lambert 100% natural museums

In Château-Lambert, right in the heart of nature, you can discover two museums dedicated to the environment and local culture. The Musée de la Montagne (Mountain Museum) offers a mainly open-air tour of traditional rural life in the early 20th century. You’ll discover the rural habitat, farming activities, forestry and woodworking trades, offering a detailed insight into the life of mountain dwellers at the time. A little further on, the Espace Nature Culture, with its 250 m² of exhibition space, showcases the natural and cultural riches of the Southern Vosges.

Château-Lambert Between nature, history and culture

Château-Lambert is a mountain hamlet on the heights of the 1000 Étangs, at an altitude of 700m. You’re on the border between the Vosges and Haute-Saône. The village is centred around a chapel dating from 1616, and is home to the source of the river Ognon. Below, the Saint Antoine oratory marks the entrance to the old copper and silver-lead mines, which were exploited between 1374 and 1768.

Near the Ballon de Servance

From Château-Lambert, you can reach the highest point in Haute-Saône: the Ballon de Servance, at an altitude of 1,216 metres. This summit offers breathtaking views and is a major point of interest for hiking and nature lovers.

The Mountain Museum A journey through time

The Musée de la Montagne is one of three departmental museums run by the Haute-Saône department, the other two being in Champlitte. Albert Demard founded the museum in 1977, looking back at the history of traditional rural society in the early 20th century. Housed in a former farmhouse, the museum presents a detailed panorama of mountain life through faithful reconstructions of rural dwellings and farming activities.

In this farmhouse, four rooms have been recreated, with modest furnishings and rudimentary comforts. Farming activities are also highlighted in the cowshed and granary, where various tools used for growing rye, buckwheat and potatoes are on display. These crops were essential components of the peasant diet.

Welcome At Espace Nature Culture

The Espace Nature Culture, located next to the Musée de la Montagne, is a modern exhibition centre with High Environmental Quality certification. Its architecture may come as a surprise, but it’s well worth a visit. The building also houses the offices of the Maison de la Nature, the Réserve Naturelle des Ballons Comtois and the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park.

Open all year round and free of charge, you’ll find a permanent exhibition on the region’s fauna and flora, as well as its cultural heritage and know-how.

The Maison de la Nature offers regular events and themed activities to raise public awareness of the environment. With 250 m² of exhibition space, a shop and a children’s reading corner, the Espace Nature Culture is an enriching visit for all the family.
