The Camp de César, overlooking the Cité de Caractère of Chariez, is a rocky plateau rising to an altitude of 380 metres.
Archaeological finds bear witness to the presence of humans during the Magdalenian period, between 17,000 and 14,000 BC. However, contrary to what its name might suggest, the site was probably never occupied by the Romans.

Geological curiosities To explore
This natural site is packed with rock formations such as “la Guillotine”, a rocky cleft with a hanging boulder that catches the eye: it looks as if it is about to come down like the cleaver of the guillotine. Don’t miss “le Pintet”, a rock that looks like a cup with a handle, or “La Pierre qui Vire”, surrounded by local legends. These geological curiosities add undeniable charm to the landscape.
