Founded in the 6th century by Saint Colomban, the abbey became a Benedictine monastery and has undergone many transformations over the centuries. Evacuated after the French Revolution, it was converted into a minor seminary in 1815 and then into a college in 1972.
The Saint Colomban Museum houses a permanent exhibition featuring objects from the Abbey and explanations of the Irish monk's life.
A shop sells local produce, religious objects, second-hand books and products bearing the "Luxeuil Abbey" label.
