Atelier biodiversité

As part of its cultural programme and its commitment to preserving the environment, the management body of the Colline Notre-Dame du Haut, known as Porterie, is offering a new workshop in 2025 aimed at all audiences. This workshop will focus on the crucial theme of biodiversity, offering a unique opportunity to discover the Ronchamp site through the prism of its natural environment.

This exceptional setting was a source of inspiration for the Franco-Swiss architect Le Corbusier when he accepted the commission to rebuild the chapel in 1955. The beauty of the surrounding landscape, with its green hills and rich biodiversity, influenced his architectural vision, helping to create a place of contemplation and contemplation.

Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to explore the different areas of the site, armed with a guide booklet. This document will be used as a guide to help them identify ten different species of tree found on the hill. Through this interactive activity, visitors will not only be able to familiarise themselves with the local flora, but also understand the importance of each species in the ecosystem.

The workshop will not be limited to simply observing the trees. It will also be a chance to meet the outreach team and find out about the various initiatives undertaken by La Porterie to preserve biodiversity. The people in charge of the site strive to reconcile welcoming the public and protecting the environment, a challenge they have taken up with determination and ingenuity.

Among the initiatives put in place is the installation of beehives on the site. These hives encourage pollination and support bee populations, which are essential to the health of ecosystems. In addition, the practice of reasoned mowing helps to preserve local plant species while keeping the areas open and accessible to visitors.

La Porterie has also installed nesting boxes and insect hotels, creating habitats conducive to birds and pollinating insects. These installations are crucial to encouraging local wildlife and maintaining biodiversity on the site. By raising public awareness of these actions, the workshop aims to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity and how it can be protected.

Taking part in this workshop is also an opportunity to reflect on our own impact on the environment and the simple things we can do to encourage biodiversity, whether in a natural or urban setting. By learning to identify different species of tree, participants will develop a more attentive eye for their everyday environment, which is essential for creating a real commitment to conservation.

As well as the educational aspect, this workshop will also be a time for conviviality and exchange. Participants will have the opportunity to share their discoveries and exchange ideas on how to preserve and enrich biodiversity.
