The loop of the forges (n°17) starts in Pesmes, a sentinel and defensive town overlooking the Ognon at the confluence of major communication routes. Pesmes is a must-see heritage gem, well worth a stop for any cyclist. Castles and forges have made this Bougogne-Franche-Comté Cité de Caractère famous since the Middle Ages. A day's visit is not superfluous to make the tour! As you leave this historic village and follow the paths through fields of rapeseed and hemp, you'll be amazed at the peace and quiet that reigns along this very gently undulating route. At Valay, you'll come across the Vieilles Vignes loop (no. 19).
