Jean-Charles-Emmanuel Nodier, born in Besançon on 29 April 1780, was a French writer, novelist and academician. He is known as the "man of books", the librarian of the Arsenal with its famous salon, the founder of the Bulletin du bibliophile, and the collector of rare books that history tends to remember today. The author of La fée aux miettes, among other works, he is credited with having a major influence on the birth of the Romantic movement in literature from the early years of the century until his death in 1844.
