The village of Bourguignon-lès-Morey, built into the hillside, hides a very ancient origin. Known since the 19th century, a 480 m long rampart attests to the existence of a fortified settlement as far back as the Neolithic period. Excavations at the site have provided a number of scientific details and definite dates based on the study of sediment layers and artefacts. Archaeologists have found that this site, which is representative of defensive settlements in Franche-Comté, was occupied between 4200 and 200 BC, with long periods of abandonment during which populations probably moved down to the plain.
