To enjoy an unobstructed view of the Ognon Valley, sit on the heights of Vellefaux next to the Sainte Anne chapel. In good weather, it is even possible to observe the Alps. Benches are in place and allow you to stop for a break under the avenue of trees.

Legend has it that a statuette of St. Anne was found in a bush. Surprisingly, when it was decided to put the statuette in the village church for safekeeping, it was found some time later in the bush. The historical period of this event is around the year 548 (although uncertain). Three years later, in 551, a hermitage was erected on the hill in honour of the saint and this particular find. In the Middle Ages, the village suffered terrible hardships, first the plague, then the barbarian invasion of the Swedes. A chapel was built around 1650 on the site of the hermitage. A variant of the legend given by Abbé Bulle evokes an ox that found the statuette in 1848.

A pilgrimage takes place on the Sunday closest to 26 July each year. The faithful asked for Saint Anne's intercession in many cases, especially in case of drought or bad weather. Enjoy your visit!!!
