At the end of the Second World War, a battle took place on the Montagne de Ternuay on 1 August 1944 between the 130 men of the Beuchots maquis and the Nazi army. The maquisards were able to escape the encirclement and retreat without loss after four hours of fighting, but in retaliation the Nazis looted and burned the neighbouring farms and savagely executed five farmers who had not been able to escape
A commemorative stele has been erected in the hamlet of La Montagne.
