Sandrine Steiner is a saffron producer in Vandelans. She offers a range of products, including pistils, saffron honey and saffron syrup. She also offers gift trays with different products.
After planting a trial plot in 2023, which went well, the decision was made to take the plunge and plant 20,000 bulbs of "crocus sativus", the saffron crocus. The harvest period in our region runs from mid-October to early December, depending on the weather. This is a very intense period, as the pistils have to be picked, pruned and dried all in the same day.
It takes between 150 and 200 flowers to make 1 gram of dry saffron.
