Jean-Jacques Rousseau has just finished the book of his life, Confessions. It is a work in which he settles accounts with his friend of twenty years, Denis Diderot. He came to Paris to give public readings. The religious authorities were pleased, because they were once again going to incite the king to imprison Diderot and ban his work "L'Encyclopédie". For the Church, it was an impious book, since God was no longer at the centre of creation.
One evening, Diderot came to see Rousseau to ask him to stop criticising him, but Rousseau refused because, in his opinion, sincerity was priceless. Diderot then suggested challenging him to a game of chess. The winner would decide the fate of the other. A senseless game begins. This play is the story of a disappointed friendship that also takes the audience as witness and sheds light on the thoughts of these two philosophers in a humorous way. And you will discover that they are still very much relevant today.
