Escapade on wheels and gourmet

Here’s another event devised by the Pays des 7 Rivières Tourist Office, combining sport and gourmet delights! The Escapade roulante et gourmande takes place every year in June in Loulans-Verchamp. Participants can choose between two cycling circuits: a 20km loop for families and a 35km loop for the more sporty, all on low-traffic roads. The event showcases local expertise, with cheese tastings along the way. Over the years, a walking circuit has also been added, enabling a wider public to enjoy the day. Electrically-assisted bikes are welcome, making the event accessible to all lovers of cycling and good food.

Around the cherry

Fougerolles is cherry country. So it’s hardly surprising that two of the town’s major events are centred around this fruit: the Cherry Festival and the Cherry Doughnut Fair.

Every year at the end of June, the Cherry Festival attracts large numbers of visitors. With over 35,000 cherry trees, Fougerolles, nicknamed the “Capital of Kirsch”, showcases its local know-how through a lively market, children’s activities, walks and concerts, not forgetting the not-to-be-missed election of Miss Cerises. Those taking part can sample Kirsch AOC.

In September, the cherry doughnut fair takes place on the third Sunday of the month. This festive event features delicious cherry fritters, as well as cherry-related products presented by around fifty exhibitors. Visitors can also enjoy a gourmet meal and the induction of new members of the Confrérie des Gousteurs de Kirsch de Fougerolles. At this ceremony, they receive a small charmotte, a wicker basket designed for picking cherries, which they can use to store the tasting glass.

Bread festivals

Every year in May, Héricourt and Luxeuil celebrate the Fête du Pain, an event that celebrates the skills of bakers and local traditions.

In Héricourt, the festivities take place at the Mont Vaudois fort, where bread is baked in the restored 1877 bread oven. Visitors can watch the bread being made live before buying it. Exhibitions trace the history of bread and showcase a variety of artistic works, and there are plenty of activities to entertain young and old alike. The fort will be open for tours, allowing participants to discover this well-preserved military heritage rich in history.

In Luxeuil-les-Bains, the festival is taking place in the gardens of the Abbey of Saint-Colomban, where a market of producers and craftsmen will be showcasing regional specialities. Between 15 and 20 bakers from all over the Haute-Saône region will be showcasing their specialities: bread with bacon, Comté cheese, chorizo cobblestones and much more. At 2pm, the blessing of the bread brings the public together to celebrate this tradition. With culinary demonstrations and workshops for children, this festival is the perfect opportunity to savour the best of Haute-Saône’s local produce while discovering a living heritage.
