Les Usines Réunies, formed in 1903 from the merger of the Lebrun and Bardoz-Lefranc factories, closed its doors after a hundred years in 2013.
The town of Saint-Loup has acquired part of the factory buildings, as well as a large stock of chairs (most of them one-offs), in order to preserve and promote the rich history of Lupen craftsmanship.
This initiative gave rise to the Cité du Meuble Conservatory project. An association is now in charge of listing and restoring the thousands of chairs found in the attics. The most interesting are exhibited and the museum is gradually being created.
A true witness to the past of the town's timber industry and its industrial history, the museum is open to the public on a guided tour, taking visitors on a journey from the forest to the chair. To schedule your visit, please contact Saint-Loup-sur-Semouse town hall on 03 84 49 06 22.
