Description
Come and discover this new exhibition "Grand Bleu" by Jean Verame.
Freedom, emancipation, a thirst for intensity, an inner fire, a wind of novelty, but also sincerity and a unique grace characterise Jean Verame, a personality apart, elusive and delicate, at odds with the artistic doctrines of his time. He achieved international stature without ever appearing to seek recognition or success; critics celebrated him as the inventor of land art and the unforgettable and extraordinary painter of deserts. A defector from Belgium, a passionate lover of France, curious about everything, always on the move and in search of new frontiers, his only ethical and stimulating rudder is Freedom, and above all the freedom to be oneself.
His flamboyant and inspired work, in search of a very personal plastic expression and a form of wisdom, will be on show for four months at the Musée Baron Martin. For him, blue and stone are matrixes, closely linked to his way of being in space, time and matter. A lover of the absolute and an exceptional passer-by, he has forever transformed our perception of the deserts guarded by the sky and the stars - the Sinai desert, the Moroccan desert, the Tibesti desert (Chad) and the Chilean desert - all of which are forbidden places for art, while at the same time giving them an unforeseeable form of humanity. Intertwining enchantment and mystery, he works with blue - sky, space, a celestial vault with no beginning and no end - which makes everything possible artistically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. This free-flowing work reconnects us with the earth. Jean Verame has multiplied his experiments, replayed techniques and extended his range to the transparency of glass lit from within, to the solidity of bronze that he annihilates by making it fly or to the majestic stones of the Saint-Rémy quarries in a jubilant élan that wants to experience everything and is part of his way of being a painter or of no longer being a painter and being something else again.
A universe of rare amplitude and beauty, where creation, vertigo, vivid imagination and poetry come together. To be discovered and savoured without moderation!
